This Memorandum of
Understanding made on the 28th day of September 2006 between Yogi
Ramsuratkumar Research Foundation for Asian Culture (henceforth referred to as
Foundation) represented by Shri. Justice T.S. Arunachalam, President, being the
First Party and Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya
(henceforth referred to as Mahavidyalaya) represented by Professor Dr. B. Viswanathan, Vice – Chancellor (Acting), being the Second Party, provides for
the establishment of an academic link between these two institutions in areas of
Sanskrit, Vedic literature and Indian Culture. The link involves five academic
components and four other components, as mutually agreed upon between the two
parties. A description of the components and operational modalities are give us
under:
I. Collaborative
Research on Vedas and Associated Literature:
It is agreed under the
provision of the MoU to encourage and develop research in Vedas and associated
literature. The Vedas constitute the timeless invaluable treasure of our Ancient
Wisdom and provide sources of knowledge on very many subjects ranging from
Spirituality, Human behavior, Culture, Astronomy, Jyothisha to Ayurveda
(holistic health care), Nature and so on. It is agreed that the involved parties
will concentrate on those aspects of Vedic research that possess contemporary
scientific and societal values. Accordingly, research will be pursued on topics
relating to Vedic references on Natural Resources, Energy Resources like sound,
light, heat, wind and others alike.
Towards the above said
research pursuit, the Foundation ( first party) will adopt a research scholar
and provide him financial assistance in the form of research stipend for a
period of three years or the duration of the project, as the case may be. The
research scholar will register for his Ph.D programme under an approved research
guide from the staff of Mahavidyalaya (second party). The Ph.D scholar will
spend at least 20% of his research time at the Foundation and use the library
and internet facilities at the Foundation. Free boarding and lodging to the
scholar will be provided by the Foundation during his stay. The Ph.D thesis on
Vedic research will be submitted to the Mahavidyalaya and the scholar will be
awarded Ph.D degree according to University norms. There will be an
acknowledgement of the Foundation, as the sponsoring agency, in the title page
of the thesis. Apart from the Ph.D thesis, the development of ideas and research
findings with appropriate citation to Vedic references, will be documented into
publishable form for the benefit of future researchers, scientists and society
at large. To achieve this documentation, a research associate / post – doctoral
fellow may be appointed in the project, if need arises, to avail of the research
experience and assist the above said Ph.D. scholar. The post – doctoral research
fellow ship will be sponsored jointly by both parties ( the Foundation and the
Mahavidyalaya).
II. 1. Promotion of
Sanskrit Education
The Mahavidyalaya ( second
party) is offering, over the years, post – graduate and Ph.D programmes in
Sanskrit, which are widely acclaimed. It is agreed under the provision of this
MoU that the Foundation ( first party) will provide scholarships to two M.A.
Sanskrit students who are in the registered roll of the University. While the
two adopted students will do all the course curriculum at the Mahavidyalaya,
they will spend a minimum of 20 days during the project semester at the
Foundation to utilize the llibrary and other facilities there. They will be
provided with free boarding and lodging by the Foundation during project stay.
The name of the Foundation, as the sponsoring agency, will be mentioned in the
title page of the project dissertation to be submitted to the University for the
award of M.A. (Sanskrit) degree.
II. 2.
With a view to promote Sanskrit
education crash/short term courses in Sanskrit and spoken Sanskrit classes for
begineers will be conducted at the Foundation during the vacation period of the
Mahavidyalaya. Course duration and course details will be prepared and course
instructor identified by the Mahavidyalaya. While short – term courses will be
coordinated and conducted at the Foundation campus by the Mahavidyalaya, cost of
course material, certificate cost and instructor charges will be borne by the
Foundation. The certificates to course participants will be issued by the
Foundation. Apart from short term courses, competitions in essay writing,
Sanskrit quiz, sloka recital etc. may be encouraged and prizes awarded to young
winners.
III. Seminars /
Symposia
It is agreed to organize
jointly one National Seminar / Symposium for a duration of two to three days on
an appropriate theme in the area of Sanskrit and Indian Culture ( theme to be
decided by mutual consultations) at the venue of the Foundation or the
Mahavidyalaya as may be mutually agreed. The Foundation and the Mahavidyalaya
will share equally the finanicla commitment towards the organization of the
event. The Mahavidyalaya will plan and coordinate the programme and provide
manpower to organize the Seminar / Symposium. The Foundation will arrange
boarding and lodging for the registered delegates and eminent scholars / experts
invited for talks at the Seminar.
IV. Endowment Lecture
Scheme
It is agreed that the
Foundation ( first party) will create a corpus fund of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupess
one Lakh only) at the Mahavidyalaya ( second party) with an objectivite of
organizing a Special Endowment Lecture on an appropriate topic in the area of
“Spirituality and Society” which will be called “Yogi Ramsuratkumar Endowment
Lecture”. The Endowment lecture as an annual event on a date ( left to the
choice of the Foundation members) will be organized at the Mahavidyalaya out of
the interest accrued from the said Corpus Fund.
V. Publication on Yogi
Ramsuratkumar Charithram
It is agreed that the Life
sketch, Upadesas and Societal services of Yogi
Ramsuratkumar will be compiled and brought out as a publication for the benefit
of society and propagation of Values advocated by Yogi Ramsuratkumar during his
lifetime. Towards this objective, Foundation members will collect, compile and
structure all the material contents required. The academic staff of the
Department of Sanskrit and Indian Culture of the Mahavidyalaya will edit and
fine – tune the compilation into a publishable book. The Mahavidyalaya will
assist through the University press the publication of the book entitled “Yogi
Ramsuratkumar Charithram” and the same will be released by the Foundation at an
appropriate time in future.
VI. It
is agreed that a project coordinator will be appointed to coordinate all the
programmes under the provisions of this MoU and monitor the progress. The
coordinator will be chosen from the academic staff of the Department of Sanskrit
and Indian Culture of the Mahavidyalaya and he will report to the Vice –
Chancellor the Mahavidyalaya. The coordinator will submit progress report
periodically – one copy to the Mahavidyalaya and the other to the Foundation. It
is also agreed to pay an honorarium of Rs. 3000/- per mensum to the project
coordinator, which will be borne by the Foundation.
VII.
The MoU will be effective for a period of 3 years from the date of signing of
this agreement. Renewal / Amendment of the agreement will be decided through
mutual consultation and mutual approval.
VIII.
Use of the MoU for any publicity purpose by both parties shall be only through
mutual agreement.
IX.
The MoU may be terminated at any time prior to the expiry date by mutual
consultation / agreement between the parties by giving written notification.
Such notification must be given at least 6 months in advance before the
effective date of termination.
