2008 – 2009
The Department of Sanskrit and Indian Culture, SCSVMV and Yogi Ramsuratkumar
Research Foundation for Asian Culture at Yogi Ram Suratkumar Ashram,
Thiruvannamalai jointly organized the Second National seminar on the topic
“Jeevanmuktas of Bharatam” on 2nd and 3rd February 2008.
Seven invited speakers presented papers and 15 participants attended the
Seminar.
2007 – 2008
-
U.G.C X Plan grant was received in January 2007 for the establishment of a
Computer Centre with campus networking at our Mahavidyalaya.
-
Staff Quarters and Non-Resident Student Centre, under UGC X Plan Development
Assistance, are under advanced stage of construction and are set for completion
by the end of March 2007.
-
Construction of a Seminar Hall, under UGC X Plan grant towards strengthening the
MBA Departmental infrastructure, is under progress and will be completed before
the end of the X Plan.

The inspection team from NCTE, Bangalore visited our University on 26.11.06 and
approval was granted on 03.02.07 to start B.Ed. programme from the academic year
2007.

Shri. Venkat Subramanian, Angarai International Inc., USA, visited the
Mahavidyalaya and delivered a special lecture titled “Emerging Trends in Project
Management” on February 3, 2007.

Dr. Subramanian Swami, Former Union Minister and Visiting Professor, Harvard
University visited Mahavidyalaya on 20.02.2007 and delivered a Special Lecture
on “Ethics for Engineers and Managers”. Scholarships were distributed by the
chief guest to more than 100 meritorious students of Mahavidyalaya.

National Science Day was celebrated on 28.02.2007 and Science Day address was
delivered by Prof. R. Parthasarthy, Adjunct Professor, Chennai Mathematical
Institute.

A
National Seminar on Facets of Consciousness was organized by the University on
March 2-3, 2007, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the
Peetarohana (ascendancy to the spiritual throne) of Sri Chandrasekharendra
Saraswathi Mahaswami. 15 eminent experts presented invited papers on different
themes of consciousness studies.

Bachelor degree programme in Education (B.Ed.) approved by NCTE was launched
successfully during the academic year with an intake of 100 teacher trainees.

The M.Phil. Programme in Sanskrit and M.E. (Part Time) in power system are the
two new courses approved by the Academic Council and started during current
academic year.

An interim grant towards Equipments and Books / Journals and an adhoc grant
towards merger scheme were received from UGC for the period 2007 – 2008 and the
same will be adjusted against the actual XI Plan allocation towards Development
Assistance at a later date.

A two day
National Seminar on “Ramayana” was organized on
05.06.2007 and 06.06.2007 as a joint venture between the University and Yogi
Ramsuratkumar Research Foundation. Ten eminent scholars were invited for special
lectures on Ramayana and more then 34 contributed papers were presented. The
deliberations during the seminar were intensive and interesting. The feedback
response from participants was quite good.

A new Computing Centre with high end servers and clients facilitated by campus
networking and state of the art software platform, has been established and the
Centre was named as Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Computing Centre. The Centre
was inaugurated on 31.07.2007, coinciding with the 73rd Jayanthi of
Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. Further, UGC under the UGC-Inflibnet scheme
has sanctioned an increase in bandwidth of ERNET connectivity from 256 kbps to 2
Mbps to enable net connectivity with speed for multi-users.

A crash course on “Dot Net” for final year BE and MCA students was conducted
during weekends of August and September 2007 and the student response was very
encouraging.

The University took an initiative to form “Student Employability Development
Council’ (SEDC) and the first meeting was convened on November 19, 2007 at
Chennai. Distinguished academicians industrialists and corporate experts formed
the chorum. A. power point presentation made by Shri.V.G.Sarangan, Dean (HR,
T&P) of our Mahavidyalaya brought the key issues into focus and this.

A free of charge 8 day Crash Course on “Sanskrit, Yoga and Gita Classes was
jointly organized by Yogi Ramsurat Kumar Research Foundation for Asian Culture
and SCSVMV, during 24-31 Dec’07 at Yogi Ramsurat Kumar Ashram, Tiruvannamalai.
Hon’ble Justice Shri.T.S.Arunachalam presided over the inaugural function.

A Special lecture on
Advaita Vedanta was organized on 18.01.2008 for the
benefit of twenty-five foreign delegates from University of Wales, UK, Prof.Nicholas Sutton, Professor in Hinduism at Oxford University, UK was the
chief of the delegation. An interactive session arranged during the seminar
following the lecture was found beneficial for participants in clarifying doubts
relating to Advaita Philosophy. The envisaged programme appreciated by the
foreign delegation team, showed the impact and pervasive power of Adi Shankara’s
system of philosophy.

The annual day function of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Ayurveda College and Hospital
– a constituent unit of our Mahavidyalaya – was celebrated in the benign
presence of His Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal on January 26,
2008. Vaidyasri.S.V.Radhakrishnan Sastrigal, a renowned Ayurveda Expert as the
Chief Guest for the occasion, delivered the key note address and
Shri.B.Chandrasekar, Chairman and Managing Trustee, Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam
Charitable Trust presided over the function.

A two day
National Seminar on “Jeevan Mukthas of Bharatham” is being
organized on 02.02.2008 and 03.02.2008 at Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu as a joint
venture between the University and Yogi Ramsuratkumar Research Foundation. Seven
eminent scholars have been invited for special lectures on the topic and more
than 24 contributed papers have been accepted for presentation.
2006 – 2007

Dr.Venkat Subramanian, President and CEO, Angarai International Inc., Washington
D.C., USA, visited our Mahavidyalaya on 7th January 2006 and
delivered a special seminar talk entitled ‘An update of Project Management
Techniques”.

Three new academic programmes – consisting of one Bachelor’s degree course and
one Master’s degree course in Sanskrit and Traditional Sastras and one
Bachelor’s (Hons) degree course in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry were
approved by the Academic Council.

Starting of Part time B.E. degree course in Engineering programme for the
benefit of diploma holders in jobs in the region was approved by the Academic
Council.

A
project proposal on Campus Net Working is ready for implementation.

The second volume of University New Letter “Chandrika” was released in December
2005.
-
The first issue of Sanskrit New Letter named “Raka” was inaugurated in January
2006.

National Science Day was celebrated on 28th February
2006; 300 College and School students participated in various competitions held
on the occasion; Prof.V.Balaklrishnan, Senior Professor, IIT Madras, was the
Chief Guest of the occasion and delivered the National Science Day Lecture.

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal Peetarohana Endowment Lecture, sponsored by
Prof. Jagannadha Raju Foundation, was delivered on 23rd March
2006, by Prof. Dr.V.Ramaswamy, Former Executive Director, RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi on
the topic entitled “From Ancient Metallurgy to Modern Technological Innovations
in steel”. His Holiness graced the occasion by his benign presence.

New academic programmes – Bachelor Degree in Physical Education and M.Phil
programmes in Sanskrit, Management and Mathematics respectively were approved by
the Academic Council.

Dr. Ravindra Tampa, USA, visited the Mahavidyalaya and delivered special
lectures titled “Programmable Logic Circuits” & Image Processing” on August 1 –
2, 2006.

MoU was signed between Yogi Ramsuratkumar Research Foundation for Asian Culture
and the Mahavidyalaya on September 28, 2006, for promotion of Sanskrit and
research on Vedas with particular reference to Vedic Vision of Nature. An
Endowment in the name of Yogi Ramsuratkumar was created with a corpus fund
towards organizing annual endowment lecture on “Spirituality and Society”.
2005 – 2006

Vice – Chancellor as a member of UGC Promotion of Indian Higher Education Abroad
(PIHEAD) Indian delegation visited Kenya, Ethiopia and Nairobi between June 6 –
17, 2005.

Vice – Chancellor visited London as a special invitee to the convocation of
Charles Stuart University, Australia at their London Campus at London School of
Commerce – London on October 5, 2004.

Memorandum of Association has been signed between Indian Institute of
Technology, Madras and our Deemed University.

An
academic advisory council has been constituted to revamp the curriculum during
the year 2004 – 2005 and also to monitor the academic programmes in our Deemed
University as part of Academic Audit.

A
Library committee has been constituted to monitor the purchase of books and to
establish Departmental libraries during 2004 – 2005.

NAAC steering committee has been formed to prepare the report for submission to
NAAC.

Book Exhibition was conducted in the Library between January 22 – 24, 2005.

A new centre has been started at Kodaikanal during the academic year 2004 – 2005.

National Science Day was organised on February 19, 2005.

new Ladies Hostel was inaugurated in the premises of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi
Ayurveda College, a unit of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa
Mahavidyalaya on 31st August
2005.

The manuscript section of our Mahavidyalaya, which is a Manuscript Resource
Centre (MRC) recognized by National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM), Department of
Culture, Government of India, New Delhi, has surveyed, listed and documented
with descriptive cataloguing about 1400 manuscripts during the last one year.

Dr.N.K.Jain, Joint Secretary, University Grants Commission, visited the
Manuscript Section in October 2005, and expressed his appreciation of the
progress achieved.

Prof.Dr.Rishi Dev Anand, Director (Research), Association of Indian
Universities, visited our Mahavidyalaya on 21st July
2005 and got an appraisal of the various academic programmes.

Prof. Dayanand Dongoankar, Secretary General, Association of Indian
Universities, visited our Mahavidyalaya and gave the valedictory address at the
AIU South Zone Inter-University Quiz Contest held in our University Campus.

Prof. Dr. Rajshekar Sundarraman, Dept. of Computer Science, Georgia State
University, Atlanta, USA, visited our Mahavidyalaya on 27th Dec.05
and delivered a special seminar talk entitled “XML Technologies and
Applications”.
2004 – 2005

His Excellency the President of India Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
inaugurated two postgraduate courses in M.E. Power Systems and M.E.
Manufacturing and also inaugurated the PG Block.

His Excellency the King of Nepal declared open the Sankara Statue.

Hon’ble Minister of Finance Shri Jaswant Singh inaugurated the Faculty of
Educational Technology and Hon’ble Minister of Defence George Fernandes presided
over the function.

His Excellency the Governor of Mizoram Shri. Amolak Rattan Kohli addressed the
students of MBA.

Padmashri S. Ramakrishna Project Director ISRO addressed the students.

The University has applied to the Government for starting MBBS, MD in Ayurveda
and B.Ed courses from the academic year 2004 – 2005.

Board of Studies and Academic Council meetings were held. Credit system has
been introduced in all the departments excepting Ayurveda.

Second floor of PG Block and Compound wall were constructed. New Roads were
laid.

Intercom facility was upgraded.

Our University has been shortlisted for PIHEAD

UGC has sanctioned Rs.2.35 crores as development grant for the Xth Plan and has
released the first instalment of Rs. 45 lakhs.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Narendra Modi visited our
University.

National Science day was celebrated. 300 College and School students
participated. Competitions were held and prizes were distributed.

Ayur surabhi a bi-monthly journal is being published by Ayurveda College from
this year.

newsletter MEA is being published by the Department of Mechanical Engineering
from this year.

Alumni associations were started in different departments.

A new DLP centre started functioning at Abhirampuram from this year.

Remedial coaching classes were arranged for slow learners.

A 100 bedded hospital building was constructed at Ayurveda College

CCIM has permitted to admit 50 students in BAMS course.

Seven medical camps were conducted by Ayurveda college

Through campus interview 34 students of Management department got placement.

Energy audit was undertaken with the help of CSIR laboratory

Recognition was granted to the Society for Human Science and Service,
Visakhapatnam for conducting research leading to M.Phil and Ph.D.

Minister of Health Education from Jammu & Kashmir visited our campus.
