Discovery of the periodic table of chemical elements is an important breakthrough in science, captivating the essence not only of chemistry, but almost in every science discipline like physics, medicine, earth sciences, biology and other applied sciences. 1869 is considered as the year of discovery of periodic table system by the Russian scientist, Dmitri Mendeleev. Hence, in order to celebrate the 150th (1869-2019) anniversary of the discovery of periodic table, UNESCO has declared 2019 as "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements" and is being marked by a multitude of events around the world. The periodic table of chemical elements is an important fundamental tool for learning the chemical elements and their compounds systematically. The modern periodic table that is known to us today has been made for many decades due to the efforts of scientists, mainly from 18th century by the contribution of research work of many chemists and scientists. The periodic table of chemical elements is a consolidated form of basic atomic data of all elements that are discovered by various scientists. Therefore, the property of material can be understood and confirmed through the atomic number, weight and position of element in periodic table. The periodic table is useful for modern students and scientists because it helps to predict the types of chemical reactions that are likely for an element. Instead of memorizing the atomic number, periodic table helps to understand lot about the properties of elements like reactivity, conductivity, thermal stability and other characteristics.
In order to perceive the specific usage of materials, understanding and learning the various approaches towards periodic table of elements is essential for science and engineering graduates. Hence, the proposed seminar is a programme designed with the aim,
• To create awareness on role of chemistry in contributing to solutions to many global problems, such as climate change and the preservation of natural resources.
• To create awareness about the usefulness of periodic table in understanding the properties of materials.
• To enhance the understanding of periodic table, periodic law and chemistry by teaching the learning approaches towards periodic table.
• To create awareness and emphasize how interactions between different thematic areas of the basic sciences will be increasingly needed in future research and education.
• To promote awareness of the interdisciplinary nature of twenty-first century science.
