The Department of Computer Science and Applications conducted a DST Sponsored National Conference on Applications of Data Mining in National Security on August 30th and 31st 2010. Participants from universities and colleges took part in the conference. August 30, 2010 (Day-1) was started with Prayer and Lightning of Kutthuvillakku. A warm welcome address was given by Mr.N.R.Ananthanarayanan, Head, Department of Computer Science and Applications. Dr.A.Jayalakshmi, Registrar, SCSVMV University delivered the Felicitation Address. Presidential Address was given by Shri.A.K.Pattabiraman, Tata Consultancy Services, Chennai. Keynote Addresses were given by eminent scholars Dr.D.V.L.N.Somayajulu, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology,Warangal, Andhra Pradesh followed by Dr.B.Ramadoss, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science & Applications, National Institute of Technology,Tiruchi. Vote of Thanks was presented by Mr.T.NirmalRaj, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Applications, SCSVMV University.
Technical Sessions were organized in the Mechanical Engineering Seminar Hall on both the days 30th and 31st August 2010, with the introductory session on Data Mining by Dr.D.V.L.N.Somayajulu. Dr. N.Radhakrishnan, Director, Geocare Research Foundation delivered an introductory session on the Application of Clustering Techniques in Geographic Information System(GIS). Mr.Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Amritha Institute of Technology, Coimbatore delivered a talk on Web Mining. Research Scholars presented papers in the area of GIS, Data Quality, Security issues, Text Mining and Web Mining. Dr.T.Bhuvaneswari, Head, MCA Dept., Dr.M.G.R. University, Dr.S.Girija, Lecturer, Higher College of Technology, Sultanate of Oman and Mrs. Poovammal,Assistant Professor, S.R.M University chaired the Paper Presentation sessions and gave their opinions and suggestions on the research papers.
After the technical sessions on August 31st 2010 (Day-2), the valedictory function was held. The programme started with welcome address by Mr.N.R.Ananthanarayanan, Head, Department of Computer Science & Application. Mr. V.G.Sarangan Dean(Academics) delivered felicitation address. Dr.Balram Ravindran, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai was guest of honour. He delivered a talk on “Data Mining in National Security” and gave away certificates to external participants and staff. This was followed by a feedback session in which participants gave feeback about the conference. Mr.T.Nirmal Raj, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Applications (CSA) gave vote of thanks. The programme concluded with National Anthem.
