BIOS 2K13 - REPORT
BIOS’13 - the 11th national level technical symposium was conducted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering on 26th and 27th September 2013.
Education is the highest manifestation of mankind, Brilliant Ideas of Students has once again proved to be an excellent Launchpad for creative minds and exchange of ideas and concepts of the engineers of tomorrow.
BIOS in the past years, has created a standard by setting up a common platform for student -student interaction as well as student-Professional interaction benefiting them, both to sharpen their skills and enhance their competency. This year too proved to be yet another edition of BIOS
The BIOS 2k13 had two pre-BIOS workshops conducted. The first one “web development” was conducted by the WebDev club of CSE dept on 20th September 2013 by A.Arunachalam and J.karthik of 3rd year CSE .The workshop saw an overwhelming response which had the participation of 105 students. The hands-on workshop focused on providing an introduction to web development focusing on three areas namely, Server side scripting using PHP, Database using MySQL & content management systems (CMS).
The second “Blackberry 1o App Development Workshop” was conducted by Arjun.C.Nair and Vivek Surya of final year CSE. The workshop emphasized on developing applications for Blackberry10 mobile using HTML and QML. Students from various departments & colleges attended the workshop. The workshop mainly focused on developing simple and interesting Android applications. More than 100 participants from various departments took part in the workshops and got benefited.
BIOS 2k13 commenced with the inaugural function at 10.30 am on Sep. 26, 2013. The inaugural address for BIOS-2k13 was given Prof.K.C.Srinivas, Dean (Faculty of engg and technology). The presidential address was given by Prof.Dr.V.S.vishnupotty Vice-chancellor, SCSVMV University. The special address was given by Prof.Dr.S.Rajalakshmi, Mentor, BIOS 2k13.Welcome address by Mr.R.Vasanth Kumar Mehta Head of CSE dept whose message for BIOS2K13 was encouraging and awe inspiring. The chief guest for the day was Mr.A.K.Pattabhiraman, Head Accreditation, Tata consultancy services, Chennai. BIOS started with prayer and as the saying goes “A ray of light is a ray of hope “, next was the traditional lamp lighting by chief guest and dignitaries. A special souvenir brought out for the occasion with a compendium of technical articles was launched.
There were 23 technical and non-technical events which ruled the charts weeks together. BIOS 2K13 saw brilliant brains at war. The technical events included software debugging, match mania, cyber geek, hardware maniac and code warrior, quiz, paper presentation. K-corner. Having fun and entertainment the non-tech events included non-tech quiz, ad zap, photography, treasure hunt, mini movie show, beg-borrow-steal, poster making, politicalarena, crime patrol, counter strike and blur in which many students participated and got prizes.
The paper presentation saw the participation of a number of students from our university as well as other institutions. The event K-Corner was held on both the days in which nearly 12 presentations from the internal participants were displayed on both the days.
The first day came to an end with vote of thanks given by C.Sunitha Ram - the coordinator of BIOS2k13. Her speech about efficiency, excellency, enthusiasm shown by students and sharing of wisdom enthralled the students.
The second day saw many events like mini movie show, Auto-corrects, Debate, etc…, the paper presentation held on the second day had various topics ranging from biometrics in network, antivirus as in-cloud network, Android technology, DNA computing, data mining in bio informatics, palm vein authentication, global system mobile, LIFI tech etc. many articles, poems and posters were submitted by students.
As all good things come to an end, so did BIOS2K13.The welcome address was given by the student treasurer Ms.Swathi Hedge.The Valedictory function was held on 27th September 2013. Felicitation address was given by Prof.Dr.G.Srinivasu, Registrar, SCSVMV, and the two day tech fiesta came to an end with prize distribution by the Registrar, Dean- Management studies Prof.Dr.K.P.V.RamanaKumar & Prof.Dr.S.Rajalakshmi. BIOS ended with vote of thanks by student secretary K.VarunTeja.
