Report:           The second Quality enrichment programme was held on 20.09.2016.The program consisted of lectures in REAL ANALYSIS and COMPLEX ANALYSIS in the morning session and OPERATIONS RESEARCH in two sessions in the afternoon.

The QEP started with welcome address by organizing secretary, T.N. Kavitha, Asst.prof.of Mathematics.

Our Dean (Science) Dr. S. Balaji was inaugurated the programme with a short and sweet introduction.  Dr. A. Jayalakshmi , Prof & Head of the Department of Mathematics  initiated the program by explaining the  objectives of   QEP  topics.

Mrs. D. Vijayalakshmi began with the basic concepts in real analysis. She introduced the numbers and then from the special characters of numbers to boundedness, supremum and infimum were discussed very deeply. This lecture gave an insight into the difference between least upper bound and limit supremum, greatest lower bound and limit infimum and in which even minor things can be viewed. The lecture was lively and interactive.

After tea break the second session was handled by Mrs.R. Malathi, Assistant Prof. of Mathematics. In QEP - II, the students learned about Complex numbers, Argument and Absolute Value, Geometry of Arithmetic, Applications in Trigonometry, The Complex Exponential Function, and Other handy things with complex numbers, Roots of a complex number, certain trigonometric and exponential integrals and Applications. Her lecture was thought provoking and helped to viewing complex number in a different light. It was an enjoyable and interactive lecture.

After lunch break Mr.P.Balaji,  Asst.prof .of Mathematics continued the program. His topic is introduction to operations research. First the students are motivated to listen the subject by asking questions , and received the answers from students in Connections between military and OR information in regarding to introduce the origin of OR. Then 2 definitions of OR was given. Then some advantages and limitations of OR discussed. Then different topics in OR introduced. Then the details of software available for OR was introduced by him. The lecture continued with the topics of how to define LPP, and how to solve LPP using Graphical method and Simplex method. Finally he suggested some books available for OR. This lecture created a motivation to OR.  It was followed by tea-break.

The last session was handled by Mr. V.K. Radhakrishnan , Asst.Prof.of Mathematics. He introduced the topic of Network Optimization and the concept of modeling and some of the models that are used in Operations Research. Later he was given the introduction of Network modeling in detail. Also the optimization techniques used to solve the network models namely; Minimum Cost Network Flow, Shortest-Route Network, Maximum Flow Network, Minimum Spanning Tree Network and Critical Path for a Network were discussed elaborately. He made his class lively. His lecture made many students get interested in network optimization. He followed it with some valuable points in its applications.

Nearly 104 students and staff benefited from the program. Our B.Sc., M.SC and M.Phil students were actively participated in the program. They said that they were eagerly awaiting the next program and gave a good feedback and suggestions with their request.

This program came to an end in a grand manner with the vote of thanks proposed by

Mrs. A. Dhanalakshmi, Asst.prof. of  Mathematics.
