“Virinchikaa” a Sanskrit term that refers to “an assembly of creators”. The “Virinchikaa” - technical festival provides a platform to undergraduate and post graduate students from all over India to show their talents in various activities and share their experience, new ideas and research results about all aspects of engineering and other related engineering application on 1st October 2015.


The Department of Mechanical Engineering, SCSVMV University has celebrated 48th Engineers Day on 15th September 2015 at Mechanical Department Seminar Hall. The Chief Guest Sri. S. Srinath, Senior Manager, (Materials Department) TAFE, Chennai, gave a lecture on ‘Engineering way Forward-More for Less Mantra’


All the Mechanical Engineering Department faculties visit to Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) -Kallpakam to interact with the eminent scientists and also provided exposure to real time research activities in nuclear & allied applications and concerned sophisticated research equipments. on 02nd March 2016.


Two day National Workshop on “AUTOMOBILE MECHANICS AND IC ENGINE DESIGN on 4th and 5th April 2016, organized by Department at our International Library. The topics covered were Automobile mechanics, MPFI, CRDI, Hybrid vehicles, Solar Engine, IC engine design etc.


The Department organized the SCITECH Expo 2016, a Science Exhibition cum open house programme within our university premises in grand manner during 21st and 22nd April 2016. The event has been conducted with the full support of various R&D and Scientific Organizations and more than 6000 peoples include students and general public were inspired and participated in this event.


Advanced Training Programme on Industrial Automation was organized by the Department from 9th to 13th March 2016. It is a 5 days training program on the applications of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. A hand on training was given to the students on PLC programming, working on SCADA software and ROBOT was also taught.


The Department of Mechanical Engineering SCSVMV University has conducted a special seminar on ‘ SALIENT ASPECTS OF NAAC ’ on 25th March 2016 at our Mechanical Department Seminar Hall. Faculties from various departments were participated in the seminar. The seminar covered the seven aspects of NAAC was discussed in detail.

The Department conducted in association with National Power Training Institute, Neyveli two day National Workshop on “FAMILIARISATION PROGRAM ON THERMAL POWER PLANT” on 30th and 31st March 2016 at our International Library. The topics explorer the knowledge in Power scenario in India, Coal to Electricity, Fuels and Combustion Theory, Boiler, Turbine and its auxiliaries: Introduction. , Grid Operation etc.


• The Department of Mechanical Engineering, SCSVMV University has arranged a Guest Lecture on the topic of “Fundamentals of Vehicle Crash Safety” on 23rd September 2015 by Sri.Vivek Mariupudi, Director, Global Numerical simulation, Takata, USA.
• The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Placement Division of SCSVMV University have jointly arranged Orientation Programme by ‘Finishing Academy of Certified Engineers Private Limited’, Chennai on 24th September 2015.
• Dr. A. Tamilarasan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering gave a lecture on the topic of ‘Application of FEA in Manufacturing Engineering’ for the final year Mechanical engineering students at our Mechanical Department Seminar Hall on 25th February 2016.

National workshop on “RMECHnt Advances in Machining And Forming Technologies “ - National workshop on “RMECHnt advances in Machining and Forming technologies” has been conducted by Mechanical engineering on 1st & 2nd March 2012.

A Business Meet on "Solar Thermal Applications" was organized on 8th March 2003.The meet was sponsored by Ministry of Non conventional Energy Sources-New Delhi with a grant of Rs 25,000/-.

AICTE/ISTE Sponsored (Short Term Training Program) (STTP) for engineering College/Polytechnic Teachers on " Energy Prospects for Future-Global Perspective" from 15/12/2003 to 27/12/2003 has been approved by ISTE with a grant of Rs 1,28,000/-

National level seminar on "Advances in Cryogenics and Its Applications" was organized by Mechanical Engg Association, Department of Mechanical Engg. during the month of march 23rd to 25th , 2007.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a Two Days National Level Workshop on “Alternative Fuels and Lubricants Impact On IC Engines” on 17th and 18th DMECHmber 2009.

Ever year National level student symposium-VIRINCHIKKA ’was organized by Mechanical Engg Association, Department of Mechanical Engg.
