The department of Physics organized an International Conference on Functional Materials (ICFM 2017) on 2nd and 3rd March 2017.
March 2nd 2017 – first day of the conference
The conference began with Prayer followed by lighting of kuthuvillakku by the dignitaries.A special song was composed to pay tribute to Mahaperiyava.
Prof. Dr. K.Venkatramanan, Head, Department of Physics delivered the welcome address. The, Dr.R.Raja, Organising Secretary (ICFM 2017) and Assistant Professor briefed on the objectives of the conference. Prof.Dr.V.S.Vishnu Potty, Vice Chancellor honoured the Chief GuestsProf. Prof. Robert Li , Professor & Associate Dean, City University of HongKong andProf.Dr.A L Roy Vellaisamy
Conference Chair-ICFM 2017, City University OfHongKong. The Presidential Address was delivered by our Vice-Chancellor. Prof.Dr.G.Srinivasu, Registrar of our University released the Book of Abstracts –ICFM 2017 and the same was received by the dignitaries. Prof. . Robert Li addressed the gathering followed by felicitations by our Registrar, Prof.Dr.S.Balaji, Dean (Science) and Prof.Dr.A L Roy Vellaisamy. The inaugural address was concluded with this felicitation and technical session started.
Prof. K.V.S.N.Murthy (Dean – Education) and Prof.G.Srinivasu (Director-SJCAR) attended the inaugural function.
The First technical session was delivered by Prof. Robert Li, Professor & Associate Dean, City U on the topic “From Student to Becoming a Professional – Education and Opportunities in Hongkong”
The chairperson of this session was Prof.Dr.S.Balaji, Dean (Science) and he conducted the proceedings.
This session was followed by Group Photo session.
The topic for second technical session was Luminescent Transition Metal Complexes: Photophysics, Photocatalysis and Device Application” delivered by Prof. Vincent Chi-Chiu Ko , Asso.Professor, CityU and the proceedings was conducted by the chairperson Prof.G.Sriram, Dean [E&T].
The third technical session was on the topic
“Kidney
stones: Inside and Out” delivered by
Dr.N.ArunaiNambi Raj, Professor, Centre for Biomaterials, Cellular and Molecular
Theranostics (CBCMT)
VIT University, Vellore, and the chairperson
Prof. Dr. S. Jayakumar,
Dept. of Physics
Vivekananda College, Chennai conducted the proceedings.
The next session was delivered by Dr.NarayanaKalkura, Director, Crystal Growth Centre, Anna University on the topic “Synthesis of nano crystalline calcium phosphate based bio-ceramic composites for tissue engineering and drug delivery” and proceedings was conducted by Prof.G.Srinivasu (Director-SJCAR).
The Oral and Poster presentation began after the technical session. The oral session were conducted in different venues and sessions were chaired by Prof.Dr,K.Venkatramanan, Dr.M.Sundarrajan and Mr.R.Raja of our department.
March 3rd 2017 – Second day of the conference
The second day of the conference started with the Prayer and lighting of kuthuvillakku by the dignitaries. Shri.G.Ramachandran, Chief Administrative Officer, Prof.Dr.K.P.V.RamanaKumar, Dean (Management Studies and Chairman –Admissions 2017).Prof.V.Arumugam, Scientist(Retd.CSIR-CLRI) Prof. Michael Lam, Asst. Dean, City U, Prof.ALRoyVellaisamy, Prof. Jonathan Wylie, Prof. Vincent Chi-Chiu Ko attended the session. The felicitation were given by Shri.G.Ramachandran, Chief Administrative Officer, Prof.Dr.K.P.V.RamanaKumar, Dean (Management Studies and Chairman –Admissions 2017).
The fifth technical session was delivered by Prof.ALRoyVellaisamy, Dept. of Materials Science, CityU on the topic “Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy - A tool to identify chemical substances” and the proceedings conducted by chairperson Dr.V.Arumugam, Scientist(Retd.CSIR-CLRI), Chennai.
The Sixth technical session was delivered by Prof. Jonathan Wylie, , Dept. of Materials Science, CityU on the topic “Stretching of Viscous Threads” and the proceedings conducted by chairperson Prof.Dr.T.Venugoapal, Professor(Mathematics), Dean(Arts &Humanities) Dean(Research & Publications)..
The seventh talk on the topic “Photo-triggered Traceless Staudinger-Bertozzi Ligation Reaction as a Versatile Bio-conjugation Tool” by the speaker Prof. Michael Lam, Asst. Dean, City U and proceedings was conducted by chairperson Prof.S.Baskaran, SVCE.
The eighth technical session was delivered by the speaker Dr.B.Sridhar, Senior Scientist,CSIR-IICT on the topic “X-ray crystallography and its applications in solid “ stateand chairperson Mr.C.V.Venkatakrishnan, Professor of Physics conducted the proceedings.
The technical session was followed by the invited talks by Dr.S.Karpagam, Associate Professor
Department of Chemistry, School of Advanced Sciences, VIT University, Vellore on topic “Tunable Photoluminescence Of Carbazole Based Quinoline Conjugated Polymer by Dopingcds Quantum Dot and Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) and Dr.ArthiMuley, Dept. of Physics, SIES college , Mumbai on the topic
“Photoluminescence in various phases of CerrousSulphate”
The Oral session were conducted in different venues and sessions were chaired by Mrs.J.Suganthi, Mr.V.Ragavendran andDr.K.Rajalakshmi of our department.
The conference concluded with the Valedictory function in which the Awards were given to Best Oral and Poster presentations and ended with national Anthem.
