NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY - 2019

The theme of the year 2019 is "Science for the People, and the People for Science"

The National Science Day was celebrated on 4th March 2019, at 10.30 am at the Adi Sankara Auditorium, University premises. After lighting of Kuthuvillakku, Prof. Dr. K. Venkatramanan, Convener- NSD 2019 & Prof & Head of the department welcomed the gathering. Dr.K.Rajalakshmi, Coordinator NSD-2019 & Assistant Professor of Physics read the National Science Day Report. Prof. Dr. S. Jayarama Reddy, Hon’ble Chancellor, of our University honoured the Chief Guest Dr. Anita Aggarwal, Scientist-"E", Instrumentation Development Programme, Technology Development & Transfer Division, Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi with shawl and Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr.V.S.Vishnu Potty honored the Chief Guest with a memento.

Prof. Dr. S. Jayarama Reddy, Hon’ble Chancellor presided over the function. He motivated the younger talented minds to understand the learning of Science in today’s life and also delivered a talk on the importance of celebrations of National Science Day in remembrance of great Scientist Prof.C.V.Raman. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor released the Science Magazine “Vijnana Veeksha” and the first copy was received by the Chief Guest. Then our Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering by stressing the need to create scientific awareness among common man. Prof. Dr.G.Srinivasu, the Registrar, and Prof. Dr.S.Balaji, Dean (Faculty of Science) felicitated the gathering.

Dr.T.Gnanasekaran, Director, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Centre for Advanced Research introduced the chief guest. Then, the chief guest delivered the National Science Day address. She delivered an inspiring talk on the objectives of this celebration and also insisted on the importance of promoting research oriented programmes and activities for the betterment of India.

As part of National Science Day celebrations [NSD 2019], the department has organized various competitions like Painting, Poster and Power point presentations, Scientific Models, Quiz Programmes on the theme "Science for the People, and the People for Science" to encourage and to popularize Science and Technology. . These events were conducted during second and third week of February 2019 by the respective department coordinators. Around 200 students participated in all the events with great enthusiasm. The winners of various events were awarded with certificates during the function. Mrs.J.Suganthi, Coordinator-NSD-2019 & Assistant Professor of Physics proposed vote of thanks. The program concluded with National Anthem.
