The Department of Physics of SCSVMV University organised a THIRD NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON INSTRUMENTATION TECHNIQUES IN PHYSICS [PINTECH’ 14] on 31-10-2014. A total of 120 participants from various colleges/Universities benefited from the workshop. The Inaugural function started at 10.00a.m. Prof.Dr.K.Venkatramanan, Convener – PINTECH’14 & Head, Department of Physics welcomed the gathering. Prof. V.Ragavendran, Organizing Secretary - PINTECH’14 and Asst. Prof. of physics briefed about the objectives of the workshop. Prof. Dr. Vishnu Potty.V.S, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SCSVMV, delivered presidential address. The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Srinivas Kota, Chief Scientist & Scientist in-charge, Central Scientific Instruments Organization, CSIR Madras complex, Chennai. Prof. Dr.A.Jayalakshmi, Dean, Faculty of Science felicitated the gathering. The first Keynote address was delivered by the Chief Guest Dr.Srinivas Kota on the topic “Advances in Instrumentation Technology” and the second Keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr.S.Gunasekaran, Dean (R&D), St.Peter’s University, Chennai on the topic “ATR Technique – A Boon to FTIR Spectroscopy for Materials Characterization”. During afternoon session, various instrumentation techniques in the below mentioned areas were demonstrated to the participants by splitting them into five batches at Physics lab & Chemistry lab. Instrumentation techniques: · Thin Film Characterization (PVD) · Rheology & Ultrasonic Studies (Solids & Liquids) · Molecular modeling (Gaussian & Gauss view) · Mineralogical studies & · FTIR – ATR Technique
