Dr. Hema Narayanan -Associate Professor and Head, Department of Commerce
Dr. Hema Narayanan is a distinguished academician and dedicated educationist with over two decades of experience in teaching, training, and academic leadership. A first rank holder in M.Com. from Queen Mary’s College (Autonomous), Chennai, she cleared SLET (Commerce) in November 1999—immediately after completing her post-graduation in her very first attempt—and subsequently qualified UGC-NET [JRF] in Management in December 2008.

Her teaching philosophy is anchored in curiosity-driven learning, community engagement, and transformative education—passionately creating opportunities for students to connect classroom concepts with real-world impact and to participate in greater community events that nurture their imagination and skills. Her dynamic leadership blends academic rigor with social responsibility, inspiring students to become ethically grounded, community-conscious professionals.

Currently serving as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Commerce (from 1 November 2025), Dr. Hema Narayanan leads several academic reforms and professional collaborations. She initiated and facilitated MoUs with My Career Point Academy, Hand in Hand Academy, and Young Indians Forum (the youth wing of the Confederation of Indian Industry). Under her stewardship, the Department is launching B.Com Professional Accounting (CA Integrated) and B.Com Accounting and Finance (CMA Integrated) from the academic year 2026–27, effectively bridging academic learning with professional training.

Her doctoral research—”A Study on Occupational Stress in the Unorganized Sector with special reference to Construction Workers in Kanchipuram District”—was commended by a Harvard University Professor for its depth and field impact. Beyond the classroom, she has consistently integrated social engagement into academic pursuits: sensitizing construction workers on workplace safety and welfare schemes during her Ph.D. fieldwork.
A practitioner of curiosity-driven, community-embedded education, she has led Enactus Community Labs for government school students, driven Thinnai Palli Koodam cultural programmes, and conducted nationwide placement preparatory training as a TCS-certified resource person. She was also a core member of the marketing team for Community Radio (2018–19), where she was part of the team that created and presented an audio course on “Community Radio in India.”
Her defining contribution to student empowerment lies in architecting two groundbreaking, career-integrated programmes — B.Com Professional Accounting (CA Integrated) and B.Com Accounting & Finance (CMA Integrated) launched from the AY
2026–27. These initiatives reflect her deep, unwavering commitment to student-centric education: by embedding professional certification directly into the degree curriculum, she eliminates the gap between classroom learning and career readiness, ensuring students graduate not merely with a qualification, but with industry-recognized credentials, practical competence, and a competitive edge in the professional world. This bold vision transforms the undergraduate experience from passive learning into an active launchpad for employability and entrepreneurial leadership.
Dr. Hema Narayanan represents a rare blend of academic rigor, institutional vision, and grassroots social responsibility—shaping ethically grounded, industry-ready professionals for Viksit Bharat.

About Placement and Training Divison

Every student comes with an aspiration for a flying career. The training and placement division work to support the student’s aspirations with an aim to guide them to start building a career and not just an employment.

Career Planning is a complex process and when multiple opportunities are in front of the final year students, it’s become difficult for them to identify the best suited opportunity. The Training & Placement Division understand this and conducts various programmes and support services to meet the needs of students towards their professional development. The division works with the students and for the students in their career planning process.

The placement division acts as a bridge among the students, academic departments and industries. We start with conducting career guidance and counseling sessions with industry experts so that students could understand and define their career aspirations. This would help us to understand their career needs and to connect them for the required training & up-skilling sessions.

Today, there is no scarcity for knowledge-centers but choosing the right place to up-skill is the key to succeed and we ensure that we connects the students with best resource centers in the market. We train the students from their II year onwards with Soft Skill & English Communications in the 3rd and 4th semester respectively. In the III year, students are trained in Aptitude skills. These skill sets are compulsory for students who aspire to qualify for campus placements, competitive exams and much more. Our in-house faculty will handle these training programmes with diligent.

We connect the students with multiple resources for them to perceive, possess, prepare, practice, perform and prosper.

Many say knowledge is power, but it is equally true that applied knowledge is the real power. We encourage students to take up internships, industry certifications, to take-up career assessments, to participate in hackathons, tech. contests and other skill development activities. Students also have access to learn foreign languages as open electives. These add-ons would increase their knowledge and skill-set; which would fetch the best opportunities for them to start their career.

Preparation + Opportunity = Success. Our motto is to guide the students to prepare for their career and to support them with opportunities. If the students are prepared, they can easily grab the opportunity and shine.
