Bridging Ancient Manuscripts with 3D Engineering
We are thrilled to share a monumental achievement in the domain of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS)! SCSVMV University and the Saswathaiswaryam Palm Leaf Manuscript Heritage Center successfully completed a prestigious consultancy project with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) to decipher, digitize, and build an exact 3D digital model of the sacred Ancient Ramayantram.
Symposium on the Remanufacturing of Ancient Ramayantram
The groundbreaking outcome of this joint effort was showcased at this high-profile symposium, celebrating the fusion of manuscriptology, digital heritage, and precision engineering on the national stage.

The Sacred Ramayantram
The original, unique Ramayantram โ featuring incredibly minute, intricate Grantha inscriptions within geometric layers of circles, triangles, and lotus patterns โ resides at the Upanishad Brahmendra Matham in Kanchipuram. Recreating this complex design manually is near-impossible today.
The Interdisciplinary Solution
SCSVMV & Saswathaiswaryam Center
Dr. H. Venkataraman (Assistant Professor & Expert Manuscriptologist, SCSVMV) led the critical task of deciphering and interpreting the ancient Grantha texts and geometric layouts โ providing the essential foundation for the project.
Mr. Harish spearheaded the technical execution, working closely with the engineering team to translate textual manuscript layouts into flawless digital geometry.
IIT Madras Innovation
Utilizing a “first-of-its-kind” 2D-to-3D digital image conversion algorithm, IITM generated high-resolution 3D CAD data, subsequently remanufactured with micro-precision machining into a defect-free, high-purity brass billet.
SCSVMV on the National Stage
Dr. H. Venkataraman delivered an insightful presentation on the “Cultural Significance of Ramayantram,” breaking down its deciphering process and spiritual placement. Mr. Harish shared his first-hand technical experience on this complex digital modelling project.
Divine Blessings
The entire initiative and the release of the official project handbook received the sacred Anugraha Bhashanam and blessings from Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetadhipati Jagadguru Pujyasri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamigal.
Driving the Future of Heritage Preservation
This milestone project stands as a shining example of how SCSVMV and the Saswathaiswaryam Palm Leaf Manuscript Heritage Center use specialized traditional academic expertise to fuel cutting-edge industrial and scientific consultancy projects.
Hearty congratulations to Dr. H. Venkataraman, Mr. Harish, the team at IIT Madras, and everyone involved in this landmark achievement!
